As Lyceum of the Philippines-Laguna (LPU-L) reaches its 23rd Founding Anniversary, the Mission-Vision Awareness Day (MVAD) served as its commencement celebration held on February 19-20, 2024. With the theme, “LPU-L @ 23: Enhancing Learning Experience Through Innovation and Collaboration,” the students from LPU-L and LPU-St. Cabrini School of Health Sciences, Inc. (LPU-SC) participated in the events to serve as an embodiment of the main purpose of having the Mission and Vision, as well as to showcase their appreciation to the institution. Moreover, the respective heads of the University were also present at the events to share their insights as to why this two-day event is essential to every Lycean and Cabrinian.
On the first day of MVAD, the poster-making contest was open for the LPU-L and LPU-SC departments to express their creativity and showcase how they envision the Mission and Vision statement. Using recycled materials to display their message, the students began making their craft at the Audio Visual Room at the JPL building. During the said event, Miss Micaella Arcemo, the Associate Director of Office of the Student Affairs and Services (OSAS) quoted the lines "As we are so acquainted with this activity, we look at the purpose. And our purpose is to live and showcase the mission and vision here as Lyceans and Cabrinians of the institution,” which served as an inspiration to every participant who joined the contest and to examine their knowledge of the LPU community through their artistry.
The following day is when the loud cheers from each department can be heard in every corner of the LPU-L Gymnasium. The sequence of events on day two officially started with the LPU Hymn Acapella Contest, which was judged by Ms. Kimry Gonzales, Mr. Denniel Colarina, and Ms. Hannah L. Perdez. After hearing the mesmerizing voices from the groups of each representative from the departments, it is then immediately followed by the next segment, which is Jose P. Laurel and Pacencia H. Laurel Look-A-Like. Dr. Lerma Y. Calingasan, Mr. Wilzon A. Vitug, Dr. Neil Balba, and Sir Rafael Ignacio Laurel are the panel of judges for the competition. Each representative from the departments that competed as a pair was judged based on their poise and wisdom using the criteria of LPU uniform, traditional Filipiniana attire, Q&A portion, and overall impression.
As the two-day event came to an end, the winners of the competitions were then announced. The high school department brought home the winning title for the poster-making contest. Followed by the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) in 2nd place and the College of Engineering and Computer Sciences (COECS) in 3rd place. It was then announced who won the LPU Hymn Acapella Contest, with the Synchrolynx from the College of International Tourism and Hospitality Management (CITHM) department coming out on top of the other competing groups. Afterward, the much-awaited announcement of winners for the JPL and PHL Look-A-Like took place. Prince Romar Dimayuga from CAS is the top contender for the Mr. JPL lookalike. Followed by Carl Justine Abitona from CITHM, securing 2nd place, and Anthony Ric Buenaseda of the CBA department, earning 3rd place. Furthermore, Bernadette Angeline Aquino from CAS stood out among the rest and claimed the winning title for Ms. PHL Look-A-Like. Securing the 2nd place title for Ms. PHL Look-A-Like is Maria Marcos from COECS, followed by Ann Kerstine Toepe from the CBA department.
The Mission-Vision Awareness Day occurred to light up a fire inside every Lycean and Cabrinian. It brings us back to the reason why every single Lycean and Cabrinian is where they are right now. As per Dr. Lerma Calingasan’s opening remarks, "Why do we celebrate the mission of the school? The truth is this is the only thing that binds all of us together, regardless of the college you are representing. We are all bound by a common mission, and this is the reason for being the LPU St. Cabrini and LPU-Laguna.”
