LPU-Laguna Marks 23rd Founding Anniversary: A Week of Competitions, Camaraderie, and Celebrations

The community of the Lyceum of the Philippines University-Laguna (LPU-Laguna) embraced its 23rd founding anniversary with enthusiasm as the series of events began with the institution opening its doors to welcome Lycean and Cabrinian participants, eagerly engaging in diverse competitions and activities from February 21–24. Students from participating colleges maintained a strong spirit of camaraderie and creativity as they competed to win titles to bring home to their respective departments.
To officially begin the succession of events and activities, a Holy Mass led by Bishop Emeritus Leo M. Drona and Rev. Fr. Zaldy Fortuno at the campus gymnasium was conducted. Soon after the mass was held, students proceeded to the PHL Lobby to witness the wreath-laying ceremony, wherein the university heads shared their appreciation with the entire institution. Followed by the school heads' traditional unveiling of the giant tarpaulin for the entire week. Dr. Celia Tibayan, the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) department and the Chairman of this year's Founding Anniversary, initiated the reveal of the giant tarpaulin.

During the wreath-laying ceremony, Dr. Freddie Balauan, the Officer in Charge of CHED Region 4A, shared his opening remarks, quoting, “With the theme you have chosen, ‘Enhancing Learning Experience Through Innovation and Collaboration,’ which speaks that you are united as one. Unity is the greatest strength that we should have, especially in times of challenge and adversity. Collaboration has always been that through the workforce of your beloved institution, through networking, both on the different aspects and disciplines, you shall evolve to the obsession that you are aiming for.”

In continuation of the events, the campus hosted a street dance competition. The event showcased the talents of the college and high school departments as they competed in a vibrant display of dance and creativity. The highlight of the competition was the performance of the participating departments in the "Sayaw Davao" remix, where they were judged on various criteria, including the execution of their street dance parade, overall performance, choreography, technique, and group execution. The judges for this competition were Ms. Liza Estolano, Mr. Erick Oroflo, and Ms. Maria Sophia Vallejos.

The College of Engineering and Computer Studies kicked off the highly anticipated competition, followed by the College of International Tourism and Hospitality Management. The competition intensified with the following performances by the College of Business and Accountancy, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the High School Department. After an intense competition, the high school department emerged as the champions, securing a back-to-back win for them. The College of Arts and Sciences claimed the 2nd runner-up position, while the College of International Tourism and Hospitality Management took home the 3rd runner-up title.

Following the main event, the ISR Cookfest featured participants crafting various cuisines incorporating ISRO’s Mushroom Farm, with oyster mushrooms as the primary ingredient, judged by distinguished Chef Carlo Palacol, Chef Ariel Ballesteros, and Chef Myko Matienzo. Claiming the coveted title of winner in the ISR Cookfest was Team Sasanor, composed of Ms. Jesusa Obnasca, Ms. Junor Gelladuga, and Ayessa Villapando, who were hailed as the Supreme Cooks. The first runner-up position was secured by The Survivors and Thriving, followed by Sabaw Squad as the second runner-up. Additionally, special awards were presented, with Team Cooking with Care recognized as Best in Sanitation, Team Sasanor acclaimed for Best in Plating, and honored with the award for Best in Flavor. Concurrently, Piratunog, an open acoustic jam, offered attendees soothing melodies. Representatives from the High School, College of Business and Accountancy, and College of Arts and Sciences departments graced the first day of the event, their presence providing both amusement and serenity for all.

In a showcase of musical prowess, the College of Business and Accountancy won back-to-back with the recent LPU Idol Competition. Ms. Rafaella Joy Berso secured the title as she left a mark on the audience with her exceptional vocal abilities. The second-place winner of the event was claimed by LPU-St. Cabrini's Ms. Ranea Katrice Robles, followed by Ms. April Rose Ramos from the College of Engineering and Computer Studies. The participants in the contest have displayed a remarkable show full of women who embody fierce sportsmanship. Another highlight of the event was the Power Duets, with Gerald Aliscuano & Janelle Mandapat from LPU's High School Department emerging as champions. Alyanna Maria Enriquez & Marc Lewis Brotonel from the College of Business and Accountancy secured the 1st Runner-Up position, followed by Anloraine Gonzales & Juan Miguel Manalili as the 2nd Runner-Up.
